If you have tons of weeds in your lawn, a weed and feed can be applied now.  Apply early in morning when dew is present .  The way weed and feed works is the granules cling to the weeds and are systemically taken into plant which cause the weed to die.  No rain for 24 hours is needed for optimum performance of weed and feeds.  Use Scott’s Step 2 or Scotts Turfbuilder Plus 2

 2)            Feed your hanging baskets: If you want outstanding healthy hanging baskets, water and a weekly water soluble fertilizer program are a must.  Pandy’s 20-20-20 fertilizer is awesome.  Its what we use here and you can see the quality of our baskets.  Mark your calendar to fertilize weekly with this product.  A tablespoon mixed with a gallon of water will do the trick to keep those plants blooming.

 3)            Feed your annuals and perennials: Espoma brand flower tone is the product you want for ALL perennials and annuals in the ground.  This organic fertilizer feeds for 1 month.  This is a great time saver and ensures good feeding for your plants.  Mark your gardening calendar to fertilize again 30 days from your application date.  Your flowers will be gorgeous!

 4)            Spray for disease : With the cool, humid evenings and wet weather we have had this year, diseases and fungus will be in abundance.  Often, when you notice the problem, the damage has been done.  As a preventative measurement, use Fertilome’s Liquid Systemic on your plants.  This product does not wash off when sprayed as directed.

 5)            Apply Weed Preventer to your landscape beds: Weeds love to grow almost all year long.  By attacking them early with an application of Preen, most weeds can be prevented.  Make sure you sprinkle your beds lightly AFTER you shake Preen granules around.  This activates the chemical and you will obtain outstanding results.  A new product from Hy Yield, Turf & Ornamental Weed & Grass Stopper, contains a chemical called Dimension.  This new chemical controls weeds and crabgrass in lawns and landscape beds.  Used by professionals, Dimension is finally available to consumers and is a great product for battling weeds.

 6)            Spray your garden plants for pests and diseases: If you want healthy plants which will flourish and produce huge crops, now’s the time to apply Triple Action plus.  Can be used on vegetables, roses, shrubs, fruits and houseplants.  This one product does it all.    Best of all, it can be used up to the day of harvest. 

 7)            Prevent grubs from invading your lawn now: Now is the time for an application of Bayer Season Long Grub Control w/merit.  This products stays in your soil for up to 120 days.  As the grubs return to your grass and feed on your roots, they will ingest this chemical and grubs will be eliminated in your lawn.  Timing is everything and you should use this product now until July 30th for best results.

 8)            Eliminate ants, fleas and ticks: Ortho Home Defense Max  is the product to use.  Apply as a barrier treatment around the foundation of your house to eliminate ants.  Fleas and ticks will also vanish when used as directed.  This is a great general insecticide available in liquid or granules. For lawns use Ortho Max Insect Killer.

 9)            Read the label: Before using ANY product, read the directions and follow the recommendations.  Rigorous testing has been performed and rates of applications have been studied for optimum results.  It is not advisable to stray from recommended rates and application guidelines.
